India is experiencing a spell of intense weather activity with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall forecast in multiple regions, thunderstorms with gusty winds, and the emergence of a cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect over the coming days:


East & Central India

  • Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert: Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) on 4th October.

  • Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh on 3rd & 4th October.

  • Jharkhand will see heavy showers between 3rd – 5th October.

  • Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha on 3rd October.

  • Gusty winds between 30-40 kmph likely over Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha during the next 5 days.


Northeast India

  • Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely across the region, particularly over:

    • Arunachal Pradesh on 3rd, 4th & 7th–9th October

    • Assam & Meghalaya from 3rd–5th October and again 7th–9th October

    • Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 3rd, 4th, 8th & 9th October


South Peninsular India

  • Tamil Nadu may see heavy rainfall between 3rd–5th October.

  • Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema to witness heavy to very heavy rain on 2nd October.

  • Strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu in the next 5 days.


Northwest India

  • Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert: East Uttar Pradesh is at risk of extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) on 4th October.

  • Isolated to widespread rainfall expected over Northwest India between 3rd–4th October, intensifying further between 5th–7th October with thunderstorms & lightning.

  • Heavy rainfall expected over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan between 5th–7th October.

  • Isolated hailstorms may occur in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on 5th & 6th October, and in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on 6th October.

  • Strong winds up to 50 kmph likely in the northern states.


West India

  • Light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers likely over Madhya Maharashtra & Marathawada on 3rd & 4th October.

  • Saurashtra & Kutch to see rainfall on 3rd October.


🌊 Meteorological Highlights

  1. Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon continues, now passing through Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

  2. Depression over Odisha & Chhattisgarh is moving northwestwards and may weaken into a low-pressure area in 24 hours.

  3. Deep Depression over the Arabian Sea has intensified into Cyclonic Storm “Shakhti”. It is expected to strengthen further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm within 24 hours, moving towards north and central Arabian Sea by 5th October.

  4. Western Disturbance likely to impact Northwest India from 4th October, enhancing rainfall activity.

  • Northeast India: Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall.

  • West & East India: Isolated to scattered rainfall likely.
