Cyclone “Montha” Weakens, But Rainfall Continues Across Many Regions of India

The remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha has now weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Vidarbha, east Madhya Pradesh, and adjoining parts of Chhattisgarh. It is expected to move northwards and gradually weaken further within the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely across several regions.

In South Peninsular India, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected over Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema, accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph). East and Central India may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, with extremely heavy rain possible over Sikkim. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also expected across these regions for the next few days.

In West India, moderate rain is likely over Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, while Northeast India can expect heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. Northwest India may witness isolated rain and thunderstorms over East Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan, and due to a fresh Western Disturbance, rain or snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region from 3rd to 5th November.

Additionally, a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea is expected to bring rainfall to coastal regions of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Upper air cyclonic circulations persist over parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, Southeast Assam, and the Gulf of Thailand, contributing to unstable weather conditions.

Overall, the next few days will bring active weather over eastern, central, and southern India with isolated rainfall also likely over the Northeast.
