🌀 Cyclone “Shakhti” Intensifies Over Arabian Sea: Latest Weather Update

The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Shakhti” continues to churn over the northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea, maintaining its strength and slow movement while gradually heading toward the Arabian Peninsula.

According to the latest update at 0830 hrs IST on 5th October 2025, Cyclone Shakhti was centered near latitude 20.9°N and longitude 61.3°E, roughly:

  • 220 km southeast of Ras Al Hadd (Oman),

  • 250 km east of Masirah (Oman),

  • 750 km southwest of Karachi (Pakistan),

  • 820 km west-southwest of Naliya (Gujarat, India), and

  • 820 km west of Dwarka (Gujarat, India).

🌊 Current Movement and Intensity

The system has been moving west-southwestwards at a speed of around 18 kmph over the past six hours. Meteorological analysis indicates that Shakhti will continue to move in this direction until the morning of 6th October, after which it is expected to gradually weaken into a less intense system.

Following this weakening phase, the storm is likely to recurve eastwards, moving towards the west-central and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea, where it will continue to lose intensity further.

đŸŒĻ️ Expected Impact and Sea Conditions

  • Rough to very rough sea conditions are likely over much of the central and north Arabian Sea, making navigation and fishing activities extremely risky.

  • Strong surface winds (60–80 kmph) are expected over areas surrounding the storm center, with occasional gusts reaching higher speeds.

  • The coastal regions of Oman and southern Pakistan may experience moderate to heavy showers and squally winds as the system moves closer to the Arabian Peninsula.

Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea until the system weakens completely.

⚠️ Cyclone “Shakhti” – A Recap

Cyclone Shakhti formed from a deep depression over the northeast Arabian Sea and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm due to favorable sea surface temperatures and strong moisture inflow. Since its formation, the system has shown signs of intensification but is now approaching a weakening trend due to increasing dry air intrusion and lower sea temperature near the Oman coast.

📅 Outlook

  • Shakhti will likely weaken into a depression by 7th October, posing less threat to land areas.

  • Northwest India and Gujarat coast will remain largely safe, with only marginal impact in terms of cloudy skies and light rainfall due to outer cloud bands.
