🌧️ Rain to Lash Southern India While Cold Wave Grips Central and Northern Plains

The latest All India Weather Bulletin from the Meteora Weather Service (MWS) indicates a contrasting weather pattern across the country — rain and thunderstorms in the southern states, while central and northern India brace for an intensifying cold wave in the coming days.

đŸŒĻ️ Southern India to Witness Active Rainfall and Thunderstorms

  • Light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms are expected at most to many places across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Islands during the next few days.

  • Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu on 11th and 12th November, and over Kerala & Mahe on 11th November.

  • Thunderstorms with lightning are forecast to occur frequently over Tamil Nadu during 11th–12th November, and over Kerala & Mahe on 11th November.

  • This increased rain activity is attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulations currently active over southern and southeastern regions.

🌀 Meteorological Setup

As of 1730 hours IST, several upper air cyclonic circulations are influencing the country’s weather systems:

  • A circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining areas persists at 1.5 km above mean sea level, influencing northwestern India.

  • Another circulation over Tripura and nearby regions extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, maintaining localized cloud development in Northeast India.

  • A third circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea, off the south Kerala coast, is also active at the same level, feeding moisture and supporting thunderstorm activity over Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

  • Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation is lying over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, adding moisture to the eastern coastal belt.

These combined systems are enhancing moisture incursion over the southern peninsula, ensuring active rain and thunderstorms through the week.

đŸĨļ Cold Wave Intensifies Over Central and Northern India

While the southern states experience rainfall, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to dominate parts of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining regions:

  • Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely over Madhya Pradesh during 11th–12th November.

  • Cold wave conditions may prevail in isolated pockets of South Haryana, Chhattisgarh, and northeast Rajasthan between 11th and 15th November, and again over Madhya Pradesh during 13th–15th November.

  • The forecast suggests no significant change in minimum temperatures across the country, but central India will experience 2–5°C below-normal night temperatures.

These conditions mark a sharp onset of early winter over the central plains, with the chill expected to extend northwards into Rajasthan, Delhi, and adjoining regions.

🌤️ 3-Day Weather Outlook

  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Islands, supported by the active cyclonic circulations.

  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka during the same period.

  • The rest of the country, including North, Northwest, and East India, will remain dry and cool, favoring further fall in night temperatures.

đŸ§Ŗ Impact and Advisory

  • Residents of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan should prepare for cold mornings and chilly nights in the coming week.

  • Farmers are advised to use mulching and light irrigation to protect standing crops from cold injury.

  • In the southern states, caution is advised due to possible lightning and heavy rainfall; farmers should harvest mature crops and drain excess water from fields where needed.

🗓️ Summary

Region Weather Condition Duration
Madhya Pradesh Cold wave to severe cold wave 11th–12th Nov
South Haryana, Chhattisgarh, NE Rajasthan Cold wave likely 11th–15th Nov
Tamil Nadu Moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms 11th–12th Nov
Kerala & Mahe Light to moderate rain with lightning 11th Nov
Coastal A.P. & Karnataka Isolated rainfall Next 3 days

🌎 Outlook
