India’s Summer 2026 Outlook

As we shake off the final chills of February, all eyes are on the horizon for the Great Indian Summer. If you’ve felt the afternoon sun getting a bit more "enthusiastic" lately, you aren’t imagining it.Early indicators suggest that Summer 2026 will likely see above-normal temperatures across much of the country. However, there is a silver lining: experts currently believe the heat may not be as punishing as the extreme spikes witnessed in 2023 or 2024.

Temperatures in March, April, and May are projected to stay on the higher side of the average.Because we are transitioning from a weak La Niña into a "neutral" phase, we might avoid the prolonged, unbroken heatwaves that characterized recent years. The most critical player this year is the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).Models signal a 60–70% chance of El Niño developing after June. While this is more of a concern for the monsoon, an "evolving" El Niño can sometimes cause a late-season spike in heat and humidity.

Summer 2026 is shaping up to be a "steady burner." It’s a year to be proactive rather than reactive.
