Crazy spell of Heatwave currently battering over the states of Northwest India with capital city Delhi. Mostly states in the Western frontier like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh facing the main brunt of it for the last several days. In Delhi Najafgarh observatory recorded the highest maximum temperature all over India just a day ago with the mercury clocking at 47.8° Celsius. Nearby Mungeshpur also saw 47.7°C. Most of the places of Rajasthan also facing temperature between 45-47°C while other areas have been seen temperature near 45° celsius.
The main reason behind it is absence of any weather system over Northwest India. Its very usual before the onset of monsoon as it generates & strengthen the heat low over Rajasthan & therefore forming the monsoon trough over Northern India & connect with the monsoonal low over Bay. So clear & a sunny sky is very usual in this time over northwest India which accumulates the heat causing terrific heatwave. Temperature at Delhi & NCR is hovering around 40-45°C from 15th May. Even the foothills like Chandigarh also recorded temperature near 45° Celsius. In Rajasthan places like Pali, Ganganagar recording heatwave near 47°C as both observed 46.9 & 46.7° Celsius respectively.
There'll be no relief from this ongoing extreme heatwave spell in this whole month & the intensity & coverage expected to increase further in the upcoming days. The National Capital Delhi could break its all time highest temperature record in this period. Similar conditions is expected throughout the plains of the northwest India, breaking many records throughout the week. Even foothills of Western Himalaya like Jammu & Himachal Pradesh could also fall under this spell. People are advised not to go outside during mid day & remain enough hydrated & use light wear dresses, mainly made of silk.
