Jun 1, 2024 -
One of the longest heatwave of the Decade battering Northwest India along with National Capital Delhi, clocking the maximum temperature in several places of Northwest & Central India near 50°C easily. Safdarjung in Delhi recording temperature excess of 40°C for nearly 20 days. Temperature crossing 40°C at around 9-10 AM of every day, reaching above 45°C in the mid day to afternoon & then dropping down from 40°C mark at evening. A Westerly Trough low has arrived over the Punjab plains of Pakistan. This system will move east towards Northwest India in the upcoming days. This trough will amplify pre monsoon thunderstorm activities with the support of trapped heat from the heat low. Causing Dust Storm over the arid region while severe thunderstorm over the eastern parts with strong gusty winds. However the activities likely to occur late hours of the day & so the temperature will still clock at 40°C over most places, although some places could see a marginal drop in maximum temperatures, but the heatwave conditions will continue to soar as the relief is brief.
The Current Heatwave is also one of the deadly with nearly 300 people lost there life. The worst conditions is over Rajasthan where nearly 134 people died from the current spell. The High Court of Rajasthan appealed for a National Emergency to the Central Government due to the ongoing dangerous heatwave spell. In Bihar the Heatwave killed nearly 78 people, while in Odisha its 41. Except this 15 people died from the Heatwave in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh. In Jharkhand a child died from the ongoing Heatwave. Yesterday 19 places of Odisha recorded above 40°C temperature, while few people also died in Bihar on the way of the Election. Similar case occurred in Uttar Pradesh too. Temperature in Daltongunj of Jharkhand has been seen with a uptrend in temperature with the maximum temperature reaching up to 48°C. Along the deadly spell Delhi also suffering from scarcity of Water for which they demanded water supply from there surrounding states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh & Himachal Pradesh. Temperature reaching extreme at Western Himalayas too with Jammu recording 42°C, above 20°C then normal while Una in Himachal Pradesh clocking at 44°C. The 30-40°C isotherm extending just near the foothills of Himadri Himalayas. The only relief from this extreme heat wave conditions can be bring up by the South West Monsoon but that's far away still from this region.
