India braces for widespread rainfall and strong winds as Cyclonic Storm “Montha” intensifies over the Bay of Bengal and a Depression persists over the Arabian Sea. These dual weather systems are set to bring heavy to extremely heavy rain over several regions, particularly the South Peninsula, East & Central India, and West Coast, while Northeast India prepares for active weather later this week.


🌧️ South Peninsular India

Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is likely at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Telangana, and South Interior Karnataka from 27th–29th October.
Extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is expected at isolated locations over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 27th–29th October.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Rayalaseema, while Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana may experience strong gusts over the next five days.


🌩️ East & Central India

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal during 27th–31st October.
Extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is likely at isolated places over south Odisha and Chhattisgarh on 28th & 29th October.
A thundersquall with wind speeds of 60–70 km/h is likely over Chhattisgarh on 28th October, with gusts up to 50–60 km/h on 29th October across adjoining areas.


đŸŒĻ️ West India

Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is expected at some places with isolated heavy rainfall over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat Region during 27th–31st October.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over Gujarat on 27th & 31st October, while Saurashtra and Kutch may experience extremely heavy rain on 27th October.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are likely over Gujarat and adjoining areas for the next 4–5 days.


🌧️ Northeast India

From 30th October to 2nd November, light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Isolated very heavy rain is expected over Assam & Meghalaya on 31st October and 1st November, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) over the region from 29th–31st October.


đŸŒŦ️ Meteorological Analysis (as of 1730 hrs IST)

The Cyclonic Storm “Montha” over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified, moving northwestwards at 15 km/h. As of 27th October, it lay centered near 13.3°N, 84.0°E, about 420 km east of Chennai, 450 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), and 670 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
It is expected to strengthen further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm by 28th October, and is very likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada, with sustained winds of 90–100 km/h gusting to 110 km/h.

Meanwhile, a Depression over the east-central Arabian Sea remains nearly stationary, located about 570 km southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 650 km west-southwest of Mumbai. It may move north-northeastwards during the next 48 hours, influencing rainfall over Gujarat and coastal Maharashtra.

Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Haryana, and another trough runs from west Madhya Pradesh to south Gujarat, maintaining unstable conditions. A Western Disturbance is also active over the northern region, extending along 72°E to north of 30°N.


đŸŒĻ️ Weather Outlook for Next 3 Days

  • Fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over southern parts of India due to the intensifying cyclonic system.

  • Scattered rainfall is expected over Northeast and East India in the coming days.


⚠️ Meteora Weather Service Advisory

Residents along the Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu coasts are urged to remain vigilant for strong winds, high sea waves, and heavy rainfall. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
People in Central, East, and West India should prepare for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds through the week.

As Cyclone “Montha” intensifies and another system remains active over the Arabian Sea, much of India will witness active weather conditions in the final days of October.
