đ§️ Rain Returns to South India — Moderate to Heavy Showers Expected in Coming Days
The southern parts of India are all set to witness renewed rainfall activity over the next several days, bringing much-needed relief and a dip in temperatures across many regions. As per Meteora Weather Service, multiple weather systems are currently influencing the southern peninsula, which may lead to light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas.
đĻ️ Regions Likely to Receive Rainfall:
Rainfall activity is expected to remain concentrated over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, and parts of Karnataka, along with Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep.
-
Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe: Intermittent moderate rain with isolated heavy spells likely between 17th to 23rd October.
-
South Interior Karnataka: Rain and thundershowers expected from 17th to 19th October.
-
Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning possible around 17th October.
-
Lakshadweep Islands: Rain likely to intensify between 17th and 21st October, with chances of heavy rainfall on the 17th.
đĒ️ What’s Driving the Rain?
A cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep region is currently extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala–Karnataka coasts around 18th October, which may move west-northwestwards and gradually intensify into a depression over the subsequent 48 hours.
Another upper air cyclonic circulation is also present over the Comorin area, supporting the rainfall pattern across southern coastal and adjoining regions.
⚡ Thunderstorms and Wind Alert
Apart from rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are expected across several districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka during the next 4–5 days. Fishermen are advised to stay cautious as sea conditions are likely to become rough due to the developing system.
đ¤️ Outlook Ahead
While most of Central and North India are witnessing dry conditions due to the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, South India remains the only region under active weather influence. The upcoming week could bring a mix of wet and humid weather, particularly for coastal and interior southern states.
