Monsoon Surge Continues: Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across India

As the monsoon currents intensify, a significant spell of rainfall is set to unfold over large parts of India in the coming days. From the heartland of Madhya Pradesh to the coastal belts of Goa and the hilly terrains of Himachal, widespread rains — ranging from heavy to extremely heavy — are on the horizon. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will accompany these showers, marking a crucial week in India’s monsoon timeline.

East & Central India: Torrential Downpours Ahead

Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Odisha are on high alert as extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is forecast at isolated locations on 6th and 7th July. Madhya Pradesh, particularly West and East regions, will witness persistent heavy to very heavy rainfall between 6th and 10th July, with isolated pockets likely to experience extreme downpours on 8th and 9th.

Heavy showers are also expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal during this period. Gusty winds up to 30–40 km/h along with lightning will sweep through these areas, keeping emergency teams on standby.

Northwest India: Himachal & Rajasthan in the Spotlight

Isolated areas in Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan are bracing for extremely heavy rainfall on 6th and 9th July. The wet spell will extend across Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between 6th–12th July, with very heavy rainfall predicted over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions on 9th and 10th.

Thunderstorms and lightning will be widespread across the western Himalayan region, while the plains will experience scattered intense weather events.

West India: Coastal Surge and Inland Downpours

Konkan, Goa, the Ghat areas of Maharashtra, and Gujarat will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next week. Isolated spots in Madhya Maharashtra are at risk of extremely heavy rainfall on 6th and 7th July. Saurashtra and Kutch will also see strong downpours, while Marathwada braces for heavy rainfall from 6th–8th July. Gusty winds and lightning will accompany most spells.

South Peninsular India: Rain-Soaked Interiors & Coasts

South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will continue to experience isolated heavy rainfall through 6th–12th July. Telangana, in particular, may face very heavy rainfall on 8th July.

Strong surface winds (40–50 km/h) are likely to sweep through the southern peninsula in the next five days. Thunderstorms and lightning will be widespread, especially across Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep.

Northeast India: Persistent Moisture Influx

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya will continue to experience spells of heavy rainfall till 12th July. Thunderstorms and lightning will be common, and isolated heavy rainfall will create localized flooding concerns.

Weather Outlook Summary

India is entering a critical monsoon phase. From the hilly terrains of the North to the coastal belts of the West and South, significant weather activity is anticipated. People in affected areas are advised to stay alert for possible flooding, landslides, and lightning hazards.
