Cyclone “Montha” Weakens but Rain Continues Across Many Parts of India; Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal Systems Active
The weather across India continues to remain unstable as multiple systems influence widespread rainfall activity over the country. The remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha has now weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining Jharkhand, moving north-northeastwards. It is expected to further weaken into a low-pressure zone over Bihar and adjoining regions within the next 12 hours, maintaining wet weather conditions over eastern and central India.
Meanwhile, another significant system — a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea — is moving north-northeastwards at a speed of around 10 kmph and is centered near 18.9°N & 68.5°E, about 300 km southwest of Veraval (Gujarat), 320 km southwest of Diu, and 460 km west of Mumbai. This system is likely to approach the Gujarat coast across the east-central Arabian Sea in the next 24 hours and gradually weaken thereafter. The system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and north Madhya Maharashtra, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely over parts of Gujarat State.
Across East and Central India, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected at many places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Jharkhand, Bihar, and the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim region. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh during the next 2–3 days.
In West India, Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat will continue to receive moderate rain with isolated heavy showers, especially on October 31 and November 1. Lightning and gusty winds are also expected to persist over Gujarat and Maharashtra during the next 2–3 days.
In Northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland will experience light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rainfall on October 31 and November 1, while thunderstorm activity may continue for the next couple of days.
Northwest India, including East Uttar Pradesh, may see light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers on October 31. Under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected over the western Himalayan region (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand) during November 4–6, possibly marking the beginning of colder conditions in the region.
Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the Gulf of Thailand, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and covering the South Myanmar coast and adjoining North Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the east-central Bay of Bengal within 48 hours, which may later intensify and bring more rain over eastern coastal India.
Overall, the weather outlook for the next three days indicates scattered to widespread rainfall activity over eastern and southern India, with moderate showers over western and northeastern regions. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions and strong surface winds.
